Delicato Family Vineyards acquires Blossom Hill Winery in California, US

Published 06 April 2017

Delicato Family Vineyards from the City of Manteca in California has acquired the Blossom Hill Winery located in the Paicines AVA in San Benito County, in the US state of California.

Blossom Hill Winery, established in 1992, has been involved in making premium wines. The winery, which was acquired from Treasury Wine Estates, has been renamed as Alba Coast Winery.

However, financial terms of the acquisition have not been revealed.

The acquisition, which is part of Delicato's premiumization and growth strategy, follows recent investment in Sonoma’s wine portfolio from V2 Wine Group.

With the acquisition, Delicato will grow its capacity by four million wine cases. Though, the acquisition will not include any brands, yet it is expected to bolster Delicato’s growth in the premium and ultra-premium wines from Monterey and Central Coast regions such as Noble Vines, Gnarly Head, Z. Alexander Brown, Diora and Irony.

The winery will also support the company’s two vineyards in the San Bernabe AVA and Santa Lucia Highlands as well as several grower partners.

Delicato president and CEO Chris Indelicato said: "The name Alba means ‘dawn’ or ‘sunrise’ in Italian and reflects a ‘new dawn’ for the pioneering winery, which was established during early Central Coast wine and vineyard development.

"My grandfather started with a single winery almost 100 years ago and as we continue to grow our business and expand our luxury portfolio, taking steps to ensure quality winemaking will remain our top priority."

Founded in 1924, Delicator Family Vineyards, the wine business has grown significantly not only in the state of California, but also across the US, with its brands such as Bota Box, Gnarly Head, Noble Vines, Black Stallion Estate Winery, Z. Alexander Brown, Diora, Belle Ambiance, Brazin, HandCraft Artisan Collection, Irony, Loft, and Earth Wise.

Last July, the company signed a distribution agreement with ASC Fine Wines to import wines in Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau.
